It’s no secret that LEGO Ninjago is one of the most popular LEGO themes in recent years. With a TV series that’s currently on its 9th seasons plus a movie that was released in theaters, it’s safe to say that there’s a strong community of fans who are in love with the theme and that LEGO surely wants to keep pleased. Nonetheless, given that the theme is now almost 8 years old, not everyone was able to join this community at the same time and newer fans who have only recently started following the Ninjago story might now be craving the older sets. Sadly, as we all know, prices tend to go up once sets have been discontinued and you start to pay a premium if you want to buy sealed sets that are more than five years ago. However, a brand new rumor has surfaced stating that the sets from Season 1 and Season 2 of LEGO Ninjago might be re-released this winter.
This rumor comes straight from the Eurobricks forums. Over on the LEGO Ninjago 2018 thread, a user under the name of Bentonton claims that a major retailer (most likely in Hong Kong given that’s where Bentonton seems to be from) has notified him that they’ve seen and ordered LEGO Ninjago set from S1 and S2. This, according to him, would include sets with Serpentine villains, the original dragons, and a Fire Temple re-release.
Bentonton later wrote another post where he once again stated that he isn’t going to publish the name of the retailer and that he’s confident of what he’s been told. The retailers told him that he should avoid buying the older sets that have risen in price because newer, revamped versions are on the way. Similarly, the retailer claims that they’ve not only seen the sets, but that they’ve ORDERED them.
As for what the sets could look like, Bentonton believes it might along the lines of what has happened with re-releases in the LEGO Star Wars theme. They take older sets and “modernize” them to keep the up with the current build design of sets.
All in all, this is quite a major rumor and it should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. Re-releasing an entire wave of sets is something that’s unheard of and if LEGO plans to re-introduce older sets, they most likely would opt for a few best sellers rather than an entire wave. At the same time, we’ve got to think about the TV show and how these re-releases would tie in.
I think we can all agree that this rumor is out of this world. What are your thoughts on it? Let us know on the comments below.
